Jura is a great unspoilt area of France. It has some of the most grandiose scenery in France.
Its nickname of 'Little Scotland' comes from the lakes scattered amongst the woods and meadows, the waterfalls and pine and oak forests (the best known Chalain lake is a 5 minutes drive from the house).
The air is pure and invigorating, well known for its curative vertues.
The mountains are medium to high and the house is located in the village of Menetrux en Joux (700m altitude).

Doucier a 5 minute drive, Doucier is the nearest village with all amenities: bakery, grocery store, pharmacy, bars and restaurants. Saint Laurent en Grandvaux, 20 minutes away is a small market town with a supermarket and many more shops including ski rental and a veterinary clinic.

The Lake of Chalain has evolved into an international resort and offers beautiful beaches, dinghy sailing, windsurfing, pedalos etc. There is also an Aqua Park, much loved of the children!

The Waterfalls of the Herisson are walking distance from the house (15 minutes through the woods - see photo below), you can walk along the 3.7 km of trail discovering 31 waterfalls in total. The nearest one to the house is the most impressive; 'L'Eventail' 65 metres.

Champagnole the nearest town is a pleasant stop for shopping. It has everything you could be looking for from retail shops to small boutiques.
The medieval town of Nozeroy has wonderful character. It lies in a picturesque setting, on top of a hill overlooking a vast pasture-covered plateau. It still has some concrete traces of its past such as a 15th Century gateway and the vestiges of some ramparts. Every summer, the town hosts a medieval festival with a spectacular parade.
Arbois is proud to own Pasteur's family house and is reputed for the quality of its restaurants; it is the sanctuary of the Jura wine. The wine of the Jura is very unusual. Jura only produces “le vin jaune” (yellow wine), a particularly highly sought-after commodity.

Lons le Saunier is an old Roman Salt city, now prefecture of Jura. Lons-le-Saunier is a spa city where visitors can sample the therapeutic effects of the salt water. In the heart of the Jura vineyards. Lons-le-Saunier is a picturesque and historic city. It is the home town of Rouget de Lisle, author of 'La Marseillaise', the French national Anthem.
Les Rousses a family ski resort, will entertain you all year round: the area provides 2 500 km of ski-trails; husky-sledges is also a favourite in the region. In the summer, cannoying, hiking, mountain biking, adventure playgrounds or golf are popular.

Landscape of Jura in Winter
Besançon is the beautiful Capital of Franche-Comte and native town of Victor Hugo. Along with Dole, Besançon, where Comtois history starts, is the province's most beautiful town: rich of its Gallo-Roman vestiges, 16th and 17th century blue and grey stone façades and many tree-planted alleys and parks. The old fortress of La Citadelle attract thousands of visitors each year.
